A holder of aJean-François Novellin MA title in musicology, Jean-François Novelli, originally a recorder player, studied singing at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. The top prize in the Sinfonia competition under the patronage of Gustav Leonhardt and the ADAMI prize for young artists at the Midem competition in Cannes triggered off his international career which has included collaboration with some of the best ensembles of baroque music in Europe, such as Il Seminario Musicale, Talens Lyriques, Concert Spirituel, Les Arts Florissants, and Hesperion XXI, and appearances at some of the greatest festivals of early music around the world.

The operatic career of Jean-François Novelli has been just as dynamic, bringing him to a number of prominent stages in France and abroad in a repertoire ranging from Baroque through Classicism to contemporary music. A number of audio and video recordings document his achievements. He dedicates himself also to chamber music and has appeared in recitals with lute or string quartet. In 2004 Jean-François Novelli together with Arnaud Marzorati established the ensemble Lunaisiens.
