Música Temprana
Founded in 2001 by the Argentine-Dutch musician Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel, Música Temprana aims to highlight the Latin-American Baroque music repertoire. Most of Música Temprana’s repertoire derives from the archives, cathedrals and Jesuit missions of Latin America, into whose depths its director constantly delves for elusive, forgotten compositions. Woven throughout the many-faceted fabric of Música Temprana’s music and instrumental line-up is the rich cultural diversity of Latin America in which threads of Creole, Indian and African music are combined with allusions to the omnipresent European influences.
With a classical schooling received mostly in the foremost Dutch universities and institutions, fed by roots in the musical tradition of Latin America, the musicians of Música Temprana revel in the fusion of the distinct facets of Baroque and folklore so special to its repertoire. Unique is also Música Temprana’s instrumentarium: alongside the harp, violin, guitar and their Baroque peers of southern Europe, a variety of Latin-American instruments are used.
Música Temprana has worked with a wide variety of prominent musicians and soloists, including Christopher Kale (tenor), Bárbara Kusa (soprano), Xenia Meijer (mezzo-soprano), Marisú Pavón (soprano), Richard Prado (tenor), Gabriel Aguilera Valdebenito (guitar, vocals, percussion), Wouter Verschuren (dulcian), Joanna Huszcza (violin), Antoinette Lohmann (violin), Monica Waisman (violin) and Sarah Walder (viola da gamba).
