Summer Festivities of Early Music

2nd international music festival

From the Riches of Czech Musical History

10 June  – 26 July 2001

Incorporated into the extensive project organised by the National Gallery, The Glory fo the Baroque in Bohemia, the programme of the 2001 Summer Festivities offered a feast from the treasures of the Czech musical history. The programming encompassed music composed for both secular and sacred festivals, music which would sound in the palaces, gardens and churches of Prague in the 17thth century. and 18

The opening evening offered the Czech modern premiere of La Senna festeggiante by A. Vivaldi. The Vrtba Garden in the vicinity of Prague Castle witnessed a scenic performance of  J. H. Schmelzer’s serenata Hercules und Onfale directed by Sigrid T’Hooft. Among the highlights of the festival counted the reconstruction of a historical Fair Festival in the Old Town of Prague on the occasion of the canonisation of St Peregrin Latioso (1727) and the modern premiere of the school play Amoris Divini Dilectio from 1694.
