Before the age of the overwhelming peals of Wagner tubas and cymbal clashes, music used to be quiet – music, as well as all that went with it. Cornett reigned supreme in such a world. A whiff of these quiet times was carried to us on the breath of the renowned cornettist Bruce Dickey, to the accompaniment of the Dutch ensemble, La Violetta. In the same spirit, we had a chance to hear some madrigals by Orlando Lassus and Diego Ortiz, in a wordless, instrumental arrangement.
