There is Baroque and Baroque: some changes must indeed occur when you take European music and transplant it to 4000 metres above the sea level where lamas are grazing the Pampa! The flutes are fragrant with faraway places, the guitars spell passion and ponchos fly up in the whirl of dance. Such kind of music will be heard in Prague in the performance of Música Temprana directed by the singer and multi-instrumentalist of Dutch-Argentinian descent, Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel. The pieces on the programme mostly come from the Trujillo Codex of the Peruvian archbishop and a dedicated ethnologist Baltasar Jaime Martínez. It is not a mere coincidence that on the first of August, the Ands will stoop as far as the Troja Chateau in the valley of the river Vltava: just beyond the wall in the neighbouring garden live the guanako as well as the alpaca lamas, the latter in common quarters with rhea, the South-American relative of ostrich.
