On 22 July the majestic Rudolph Gallery at the Prague Castle hosted Accademia del Piacere from Spain. The ensemble appeared in a throbbing dance repertoire, under the leadership of the gambist Fahmi Alqhai, who had won the Prague audience with his virtuosic performance (2010, Fantasías y glosas, Troja Chateau). Their programme, Barroco y flamenco, traced the unexplored areas of mutual influences between the historical forms of Spanish flamenco and the development of baroque music and interpretation on the Iberian Peninsula.

Alqhai, his brother Rami, also a viol player, one guitarist and a percussionist played period music as well, but the core of their performance was interpretation, masterful interpretation. The spacious Rudolf Gallery of the Prague Castle was perhaps too tight for their temperament.
