Břevnov Monastery

Markétská 1, Praha 6

The Monastery was founded by St. Adalbert and the prince Boleslav II in 993 as the first male monastery in Bohemia which was from the very start consecrated to the Benedictine order. The baroque complex  with the St. Margaret Church as we know it today comes from the middle 18th century and is the work of the Czech architect of German origin Krystof Dienzenhofer and his son Kilian Ignac gave it the appearance we know today.

The Teresian Hall with its extraordinary ceiling fresco Miracle is a true gem of baroque architecture. The hall got its name form the Austro-Hungarian empress Marie-Therese who visited the monastery in 1753. Unique atmosphere and plaeasant acoustics, fascinating view of the monastic gardens and gorgeous plaster decorations of the walls are  all characteristics that make the Teresian Hall worth visiting.
