The motto of the 2006 Summer Festivities of Early Music, “Vogliam ridere e scherzar” (“Come, let all be mirth and gladness”), came from the First Act of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. This opera, which was written especially for Prague and which was accepted by the Prague audiences more enthusiastically than any other Mozart’s opera in Vienna, is also one of the dramaturgical mainstays of the programme. However, this time it was no staged performance, but a selection of famous tunes from the opera arranged by one of Mozart’s contemporaries for a wind ensemble. Apart from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Amphion Bläseroktett also presented music by Franz Anton Rössler-Rosetti and Ludwig van Beethoven.
