On 30 July 2012, Troja Chateau witnessed a fateful event: in Portuguese, “fado” means fate and it was through fado that Portugal has melancholically cast back its mind back to the times of its bygone naval glory. The captivating soprano of Ana Quintans, accompanied by Os Músicos do Tejo from Lisbon, carried us on a hot wave of baroque sensibility to the times when the Portuguese “blues” originated from local musical forms like modinha or lundum.
